Pipit, pipit! Not a bird call, but a shopping call!

By Cynthia Lee (Guest Blogger)

The Zakka concept has been around for a while now, but it is little known to the majority of the online shopping community. It has a small-community, artsy vibe to it - much more familiar to those who appreciate the finer yet ordinary things in our daily life. Out of curiosity about "zakka', I went to see what Wkipedia entry had been written about it:
Zakka has also been described as "the art of seeing the savvy in the ordinary and mundane". The zakka boom could be recognized as merely another in a series of consumer fads, but it also touches issues of self-expression and spirituality. "Cute, corny and kitschy is not enough. To qualify as a zakka, a product must be attractive, sensitive, and laden with subtext."
So it is the ordinary yet expressive and attractive. And Pipit Zakka Store just fits the bill. Ordinary shop located in the Cheras neighbourhood and almost unrecognisable from outside. Once you have 'parked' your shoes and make your way into this humble lil store, it will probably an experience unlike anything else.

Fascinating shoe parking area =D

The lobby area is a breath of vintage art
And yes, you are allowed to be creative with their glass panel. Start doodling!

As a creative platform that assists local and budding creative artisans in building up their products and introducing it to the retail market, Pipit houses a wide range of handmade produces. They also organise art bazaars, or termed as Little Markets, to their definition.

This March Little Market also brings together a Notebook exhibition, where all these talented notebook makers proudly showcase their super extravagant handmade notebook that exudes nothing short of ooh-ahhs from visitors.

Yes! All of the above are notebooks with elaborate front covers.

For every Saturday throughout March, Pipit will be hosting a Little Market, where you can expect to have a host of artistic vendors, vintage items, independent artists, jewellery makers and many more, tucked in this cosy lil zakka store.

the simplest form of set-up - on the floor! =D

Vintage cameras for sale!

A believer of imperfection, Lil Unique delivers to you some pretty quirky handsewn tees

The Story of Ah Hua is based on a self created character by the artist, Eva Liew.
Now this is an interesting passion I must say! There is a story book about Ah Hua
with lots of illustration of the many faces of Ah Ha and her friends.
Then there's also merchandise revolving around Ah Hua and he rmany facets of life.
Definitely worth of a support. Like Ah Hua Workshop in Facebook now!

Next to Ah Hua is another character, Cora by another independant artist, Kin.
I think I should term this Cora by Kin =D
When I spotted that yoga woman postcard,
I just cannot resist that almost size 12 woman in various yoga poses!
Reminds me of someone - me!

For you amateur out there that always wonder what is crafting all about
and want to start with something pre-guided, Bubuwa has lots of DIY kits
to make simple items like felt pouches for phone, key and coin pouches and the likes.
And if you are semi-pro, you can also ge tthe DIY kit to make dolls!
Check out their extensive range of felt DIY kits in their facebook page: BUBUWA

Pretty posters but I can't remmeber the vendor's name.
Tinypinc, of course, our favourite clay maker!

This is another to scream for skills that not everyone can achieve -
I think it's called felting or something where you have to prick a ball of felt
and make it into your desired shape and size.
These cute dolls from Little Poupees are created with that pricks of needle indeed!

Besides the interesting stuff by each vendors, there is also equally interesting stuff available for sales in Pipit Store.

So yeah, if you don't have the skills, but still appreciate these cute lil trinkets that speaks a 1000 words with the intricacy that entails it, let's support these local talents and go home with something that is very dear to your heart, or perhaps cutesy gifts for friends in mind ;)

My loot from the Little Market!
Lots of tiny clay stuff for my Monster High Dolls from TinyPinc
Yoga Lady post card from Cora by Kin, pegs with quotes card from WellHued
and a Totoro bookmark ;)

Check out the Pipt Zakka Store Facebook page here and get updates on their events.
There is still another one more week (30th March 2013) if you want to catch a glimpse
of interesting vendors that will be showcasing their products.

We're loving

Happy Shopping!
