Call for Participants!

Call for Participants

Are you a Malaysian female blogger?

Though many young Malaysian women today fall into this category, little research has been done on the subject. How do these young women use their personal blogs to represent and construct their identities?

My name is Pung Sha-Lene, an Honours student from Monash University Sunway Campus, and I am currently conducting a research project involving Malaysian female bloggers. Primarily, this research project seeks to learn more about the experiences of Malaysian female bloggers, how they construct their self-identities of gender and class and represent themselves on their blogs.

For this project to be a success, I seek participants who
·        Are Malaysian
·        Are female
·        Are aged 18 to 35 years
·        Speak English
·        Write in a personal blog (about your lifestyle, personal life, etc.)
·        Have a blog readership of more than 200 views per week
·        Are willing to be interviewed.

If this sounds like you and you are interested in participating, please contact me at pungshalene@gmail.com. Do also contact me directly if you wish to learn more about this research project before making a decision.

Product Review: Diva Essential - The Datin Series Part 4

Product Review: Balo Slimming Gel & Tummy Trimmer
By Cynthia Lee (Guest Blogger)

Hello! It's great to be able to write again and show people my flabs, I mean the fabulous products available online to quench the ever thirsting desire of every girls to look good ;)
For the past few weeks, I have been busy preparing for the KL Marathon 2010 (done), looked forward to go to Urbanscapes (done), hoping to have enough funding to go to Paris for the coming Who's Next in Paris 2010 (still hoping). This is getting more irrelevant!

Yes, another review on vanity products for us girls ;) Who can have enough of lip balms to plump up the chapped lips, mascara to intensify the sultry stare, boob pads to give a perky chest, BB cream of course, to give an instant glow to the face and the list goes on! So is the search! ;)

Do you see something familiar here?

The extra cellulites and the bottle of HOT stuff ;)

I am sure most of us cellulite-concerned beings have at least once if not many times stopped at a section in the local pharmacy checking out an array of creams or teabags that promises to kill the cellulites or reduce your dress size. Though some may not believe in the effectiveness, I am sure there is at least a one cent credibility to each products that it actually works. You only need to give it a try :) After all, I don't think there are THAT many manufacturers who will bottle up mud and claim that it will make u slimmer if it doesn't bring at least a 0.05% of result ;)

I've tried a RM99 bottle of gel that claims to reduce the size of my thigh, tummy and all other targeted areas. If done persistently, yeah, in fact it does work. That was 6 years back. The variety of products have expanded so much now (6 years from the time I got my first slimming gel) and price have been getting more competitive that buying a slimming gel nowadays is like buying a bottle of moisturising lotion.

Yili Balo Slimming Gel

I have managed to get a bottle of this slimming gel from Supermodel's Secrets to try out. For RM35 a tube of 250ml (with postage), no harm to give it a try and see if it really works. If it doesn't, can always consider as slapping on moisturising gel onto body =D

As at now, I am only in the very first week of slapping on the gel and won't be able to tell you much about it, but for sure it's hot for the first time application. However it's less hot after several times of application. Or maybe my massaging technique ain't correct (afterall, I am quite lazy). But I do notice that after a night sleep with the cream massaged on, it does promote excretion =D (this is by no chance implying that it's a massage-on laxative)

However, I would reckon that the effect differs from every individuals due to many external factors like the wrong application technique, differences in metabolic rates and such. And you won't know unless you get hold of a tube yourself from Supermodel's Secrets. It comes in a 250ml and 85ml tube for those of you who are still unsure of it, but still want to give it a try. RM19 with postage inclusive for a 85ml tube, what else can you ask for? Definitely worth a try.

Gel asides, for those of you who want immediate visible results, there's this piece of brown cloth that you can have a try too from Supermodel's Secrets.

The piece of brown cloth =D

"LOOK 10 POUNDS SLIMMER" - I don't know how much is 10 pounds, or how is it being derived from. This is certainly not a device to slim you down by reducing your weight from a 55kgs to 50kgs. For THAT, you may need daily exercise routine planned out to be complimented with a healthy diet. However, if you need a quick solution to conceal the excess flabs due to overconsumption of cupcakes and muffins, you have 2 choices for consideration - stay in the room and do not leave unless there is no one around. Or to try putting on the brown piece of cloth I have been talking about ;)

If you read from Supermodel's Secrets own verdict, you will know that generally it helps to alleviate 'muffin rolls' (a symptom derived from overconsumption of muffins especially those with blueberry and corns!). No! That's not the exact definition of muffin rolls =P I just made it up.

In case you are not well versed with what's muffin rolls, let me show some disgraceful picture of mine to further explain the after effect of a not very healthy diet.

Yup, the rolls and extra bulges that you so want to diminish ;(

However, taking into consideration of different body sizes and shapes, suitability varies on different shapes and sizes. While it may work on a dress for you, it does not work as well on me. It's effectiveness is more visible when I wore it with my jeans over a top.

In a way, it does help to eliminate the extreme visibility of the bulge created when wearing an extremely fitted jeans as shown below. It didn't alter my size from a size 12 to size 10, but merely smoothen out the unsightful bulges along the waistline of the jeans and the spilling bulges ;)

For RM30 a piece, it's a rather affordable item to try out. Though it is literally labelled as tummy trimmer, it doesn't necessarily means it works only on the tummy. No harm trying it on the abs, the chest or even as a skirt underlining to give smoother appearance.

Pink dress paired with fitted jeans and tummy trimmer underneath the top. Tummy trimmer worn on 2nd and 3rd picture.

All in all, I would like to deduce that while it's every girls' dream to have the perfect silhouette, sometimes things just doesn't turn out as expected. But then again, that is no reason for those with a slightly distorted silhouette or plus sizers to shun the world outside and not let the world know of your existence. If you think you are good enough, then you simply are good enough to make a presence anywhere ;)

Look forward to my review on Instant Clip-On Fringe - also from Supermodel's Secrets soon! Yes, the vanity store to meet your vain needs ;)

On a random note, have a look at these badges below which I have gotten in a bazaar recently.

Button badges from Eff-Bombs. Yah yah... I have turned 30 :/
I dont think these are called button badges as it does not have the shape of a button.

Anyway, check out the Slimming Gel and Tummy Trimmer at
Supermodel's Secrets! :D

Product Review: The Datin Series Part 7 - "Saving Face"

By Cynthia Lee (Guest Blogger)

Hello! Another product review by Datin the Guest Blogger for readers browse - this time skincare for the face ;)

I am sure by now, you have been introduced to Supermodel's Secrets online store if you have been following our products reviews. Basically, it's the store that sells all things to enhance your beauty ;)

If you have been going around the local bazaars in Klang Valley, you might have stumbled upon their stall - which is richly loaded with an assortment of quirky and useful products.

Michelle, the humble owner of Supermodel's Secret at Youth 2010

The Product
One of my newly-acquired favourite items would be Reihaku Facial Foam which I have started using day and night. As at now, I have a Neutrogena, a Bio Essence, a Nuskin facial foam scattered at different wash basin around the house. I do not have a specific facial wash that I stick to - due to no particular reason =D I simply love trying out new products, especially those which promises anti-aging, oil-control and blemish-free formulation ;)
Outlook & Texture
From the outlook of the Reihaku Facial Foam, it looked like any other ordinary facial foam from Japan. In which, it is from Japan of course! The texture is very silky when squeezed out. It feels like emollient, instead of creamy. It lathers up easily just with a tiny dollop only (cost saving!). Where the Neutrogena Cleanser feels soapless, the Bio Essence feels buttery and the Nuskin feels like soapless orange peel, the Reihaku feels like some emollient which produces silky foam.

Suitable for?
I reckon it is perfect for those with oily skin condition. The rich lather makes cleansing so much more fun to do as it glides smoothly. Contains Vitamin C derivatives - great source of anti-oxidant and whitening agent! By the definition of whitening, do not expect to have your skin tone altered to a different shade of course ;)
Price & Varieties
Besides the whitening facial foam, there are also other types of facial foam to cater to different needs of individuals - Medicated Acne Wash, Soybean Moisturising Wash and the Pharmaact Additive Free Face Wash for the sensitive skin ones. For RM25 a tube, I reckon it's worth a try.
Personal Experience
Based on my experience (I have been using this product for more than a month), I would reckon that it does gives a more radiant glow to your complexion and you may feel like you have deep cleansed your face while not stripping of its moisture level.

I always have very good impression of made in Japan beauty products. Maybe it's due to the constant exposure in magazines that Japanese girls are all fair, cute, petite etc. I am sure they must have gotten those traits somewhere (besides genetics) like from super high technology beauty products, cosmetics surgeries, high skilled photoshop process, fermenting yeast (SK2), eating raw soy-beans or anything! After I am done with the whitening facial wash, most probably I will try the Acne Control ;D

Have you gotten yourself a bottle?
Do leave a comment to share your experience if any of you have started using already!

Product Review: Dodora Magic Pink Cream

By Wei Ni (Guest Blogger)

Pink is my favourite colour! Pink is the colour of youth and plump skin that goes ‘boing boing’ every time you touch it! It has a soft, bouncy and springy feel to it and that essentially is the epitome of youth and health!

When I was given the opportunity to review this particular product, I was a tad skeptical as to it’s functions. A magic cream that will leave you with naturally pink lips, cheeks and nipples? Surely not! Read on to find out what this pink cream is all about! :)

Dodora Magic Pink Cream!
Comes in a sickly adorable pink packaging with a girl in a pink dress blown away ala Marilyn Monroe wearing a crown. Comes in a clear white tube, the product itself is white as well but will turn pink once applied onto skin.

DSC_0296
The ingredients. All I see is collagen, collagen, collagen!! Absolutely needed to keeping skin young, plump and wrinkle free! :)

This product promises to lighten any dark areas that you have and can be used on your lips, cheeks, nipple and umm… va-jayjay should you choose to use it there. It is said to prevent dryness and chapped lips and is best used after shower.

Now let’s see if this thing actually works! :)

DSC_0301
I decided to apply a little dollop on to back of my hand first to test it out, as you can see the product comes out white.

DSC_0303
Smoothing the product across the back of my hand, it looks a tad glossy and the pink doesn’t quite show yet.

DSC_0304DSC_0305
Giving it a few more moments, the lovely pink shade slowly appears on the back of my hand. As you can see from the photos, the pink itself isn’t overly striking or bright, it just gives a really natural pink tint to your skin. Can you imagine this lovely healthy shade of pink across your cheek? As if you’ve just stepped out from the sun and you’re glowing and flushing from the inside.

DSC_0307DSC_0306
Here’s how the pink looks on a piece of white tissue. Not very obvious and just a hint of pink! Lovely!

I’ve been using this product for a few weeks now. I personally find that it is better to apply a layer of lip balm underneath this product as it isn’t as moisturising as what I am used to.

Because my lips are already quite naturally pink, when I applied it there wasn’t too much of a difference. However, my best friend who has darker lips due to her constant need for nicotine noticed a really nice subtle difference to her lips! In fact, she likes this pink cream more than I do (so she was really bummed when a thief stole her bag with this cream inside! Anyone wanna sponsor us another tube? *hopeful face*)!

This Dodora Magic Pink Cream really gives you the most natural pink lips you can possibly get! I haven’t quite tried it on my cheeks yet, but I believe that if you put it on top of your foundation, it’ll give your cheeks a really lovely and natural pink flush!

All in all, if you’re looking for the most natural looking pink lip tint, this is definitely the one for you! And heck, if you do manage to try it on your cheeks do let me know how it goes and send me before and after photos as well! :)

Where to get this pretty pink cream? None other than the esteemed, Supermodel’s Secrets!
The price for naturally pink lips and cheeks? RM46 with PosLaju.
This Taiwanese product is incredibly popular in countries like Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan!

So what are you waiting for? Head on over to Supermodel’s Secrets to naturally pinkify your look! :)

Feeling Like an Entrepreneur? Start a business!

By Cynthia (Guest Blogger)

Back when I was younger, the only extra income I could think of is walking into a shopping mall and asking for a RM3 per hour vacancy as a sales promoter. If one is slightly more intellectual, he or she could opt to offer tuition services to younger kids. That is most probably the only option available to earn extra income (besides trying to be super nice to parents and every other relatives who comes by, in hope of getting some money which they give to 'buy snacks').

Today, you can opt to still earn RM5 an hour as a sales promoter or a barrista, learning some people skills and hardship of being in the white collared community. But if you think you have got the business sense that will most probably build you an empire (think ASOS, think Jimmy Choo) you can  venture into something that you can call your own - an online business. A business done purely with the presence of a computer and broadband services. And some IT literacy. =D

So, the big question before starting an online fashion business - where do you get your stocks? Can you get these bulk stocks without the hassle of having to fly to Bangkok, Korea or Taiwan?

Cleocat Wholesale Fashion is a light bulk wholesaler based in Singapore. Light bulk means you don't need to buy this huge quantity amounting to the size of a mini van. You can purchase for as low as 15 pieces or less per transaction to enjoy resellers' rate.. But of course, if you have no intention to operate a blogshop but have a penchant to shop in bulk, or pool-shopping with a few friends, you can do so too in Cleocat.

The best thing on getting it from another online wholesaler is that you will be able to extract modeled pictures immediately from their catalogues to be loaded into your own site without the concern of picture credits.

Cleocat have gone further to shorten the process of you uploading the picture one by one by providing you an Adobe Flash based  mini catalogue application that you can immediately put up in your blog. Talk about convenience with almost zero programming skills needed! This is a particularly great application for you to expand to more than just buying a limited quantity of stocks, but instead you can choose their Dropship programme. Read more about Dropship here.

So you may wonder, if it's from Singapore, it surely must be pricey to have items posted all the way back to Labis, Kulim, Ipoh, Malacca, Kudat or where ever you are in Malaysia. Or even in Philippines, Nicaragua or Hawaii =D Check out their reasonable postage rates here

It may seem like a pretty easy task to start an online venture. After all, most blogs are free for use upon registration and wholesalers too have come up with hassle-free platforms for sellers to market their products.
Doing a little bit of homework to identify your marketing strength, your skills that can be applied and ensuring that you can endure the 1001 Q&A from customers will ensure that your journey in making thru the online entrepreneurship be slightly smoother ;)

In the case of this post, Happy Venturing into the Online Fashion Industry! =)
