Product Review: Dolly Wink

Price: RM49 (2 pairs per box)

We can buy Dolly Wink false eyelashes locally and online now! :D If you're a fan of the delightful blogger Cheesie, you'll have read her review on Dolly Wink products. Or if you're a fan of the famous Japanese popteen model, Tsubasa Masuwaka, you'll know that Dolly Wink is her product line for make-up and falsies. Or if you've been stalking your nearest Sasa outlets, you'll also know that they retail for RM55.90.

And if you've already checked out Supermodel's Secrets, you'll know that their Dolly Wink falsies are exactly the same as the ones at Sasa - 100% authentic, imported from Japan - yet easier and slightly cheaper to just buy online! ;D Personally, I think it's a lot more convenient to click and pay via online banking than drive out to 1Utama and look for parking before buying the same thing. Hehe!

Anyway, let's get to the product review! :) We sure wanna find out how to look like a doll! :D

What You'll Receive

  • 2 pairs of Dolly Wink eyelashes of your selection: There are 2 upper lash types and 1 lower lash type available at Supermodel's Secrets. These are the most natural-looking ones that are still suitable for parties and special occasions. :D
  • Dolly Wink eyelash glue.

Today, we're reviewing DollyWink No.4 - "Feminine Style"! :)

What's so special about Dolly Wink false eyelashes?
  • Let me guess, you're wondering why you should buy 2 pairs of falsies for fifty bucks when you can buy 5 pairs for RM10, right? I know, I wondered the same thing too!
  • But while it's awesome to buy the affordable falsies - I have my own personal collection of beloved RM5-RM10 falsies! - it's also very, very important to have one or two pairs of high-quality ones.
  • This is where Dolly Wink comes in.
  • It's not a toy, it's an investment - the quality is just so different!
  • I also asked one of my best friends, Jenny, to try the Dolly Wink falsies, because she has a lot more experience with false eyelashes than I do - and you guys deserve expert advice whenever I can find it! :D Here's what she had to say:

"I’ve personally tried out DollyWink No. 4 falsies called "Feminine Style" and
they are now my top favorite pair of falsies amongst all my other falsies."

6 reasons to choose Dolly Wink (by Jenny)
  1. Dolly Wink falsies are made of really soft material, which makes it look really similar to our natural lashes.
  2. The falsies are also separated with great precision. So you don’t look like you’re wearing a huge broom on your eyes.
  3. Dolly Wink falsies also have a clear base, rather than the usual black base you get on other falsies. So you don’t have to cover your eyes with dark eye shadows to make them look natural. Only cover up the transparent gap with a thin line of eyeliner and you’re set!
  4. Dolly Wink falsies are also very light-weighted. So you won’t feel like you have a brick on your eyelids. =D
  5. Dolly Wink also provides you with their very own falsies glue. I personally love to compliment the glue because they are not too adhesive to the extent that will cause you pain when you remove the falsies, as compared to some other brands I’ve bought from Sasa.
  6. Dolly Wink falsies gives the ultimate natural looking effect. What more can you ask for? =D

How and when to use Dolly Wink? (by Jenny)
  • Although you are generally able to use the Dolly Wink false lashes up to about 7 times, however, I find that it is possible to use them for an even longer time, as long as you take really good care of them and clean them well and store them in a clean dry place. I clean them well with make-up remover and store them back into the box after each usage. =)
  • I also use Dolly Wink falsies for more casual occasions by not applying any mascara on them after putting them on.
  • Get your Dolly Wink for the ultimate cute, flirtatious and doll-like eyes today!

Watch a video on how a vlogger uses Dolly Wink *very helpful*

When The S8nts Go Marching In

Perhaps this isn't the best title to incorporate the YSK trademark "8" into, but what I meant to say was: "When The Saints Go Marching In". Get it? :P

Anyway, this review is all about military-inspired fashion! Think epaulettes, army bands, war badges - it's all about the architecture and iconography of your outfit, and I've been blinded by the pervasiveness of products we've come to recognise as military chic :D

It's on the runways, it's on our most-stalked celebs, and it's definitely on the blogosphere! :D Time to get you started - if you haven't already!

From Soak Republic RM20-RM22
Military badges, pins and brooches are a staple piece for those who love the style
but want an affordable and versatile accessory to loop 'em in! :D
I say these would look great on a plain blazer or jacket -
casual enough to be worn over a tank top and jeans!

From Idol RM45 | RM36 | RM36
Wow, their military-inspired collection is sure worth saluting! :D (Pun fully intended)
First we have a tube dress where Oriental feminine stylings meets military edginess -
then we've got the puffy-shouldered top (a favourite on the online shopping world!) with bands -
and then a very versatile, easy-to-match military jacket (which I deem a must-buy!).
Everything's under RM50 too! :D Definitely affordable!

From Mj Accessories RM30 | RM19.90
Personally, I find that these types of accessories go very well with the military persona! :D
Whether it's a structured bib necklace (fully studded or beaded), gemstone headband,
or a charm bracelet with coins, gemstones, pearls and memorabilia -
these kinda accessories definitely add authenticity and a feminine touch to the outfit :)

From
The Manni Quin RM35
Here's another military jacket that's well-suited for petites! :D
If you're fearful about drowning in an oversized army jacket, this is the way to go -
well-tailored structure and fitting to size 4-6 frames :)
The puffy shoulders also help to add bulk (to answer reader Mia who asked for tips to look bigger!) :)
Layers and structure definitely construct a frame for you -
if what you seek is a bigger frame, seek a bigger structure :D

From Zikkos RM30 | RM35
Wide-winged birds and His Majesty crowns are always part of the military iconography! :D
One of my favourite new blogshops, Zikkos is definitely a go-to store for accessories -
and true enough, I found military-inspired trinkets here as soon as I started looking! :)

From Goodbye Good Stuff Price according to highest bidder - currently RM7
Last but not least, how more military could you get beyond Star Wars keychains? :P
Haha! I couldn't resist adding this into the review mix - especially for our male readers! :D
Also, Goodbye Good Stuff is a blogshop project by Emily and Kelvin to raise funds for their wedding -
awww, what a sweet story - so click here to visit them and shop! ;)

Product Review: Easy Hair Bun

Product Review: Japanese Bun Sponge Baby
From: My Pandora Box
Price: RM15

Question for the ladies: What's the easiest hairstyle to pull off? Second only to the ponytail, the hair bun is unrivalled in its versatility - you can whip up a bun when you're summoned for casual lunches, formal dinners, or when you need to operate heavy machinery.

I don't know about you, but I sure find it very difficult to style my hair in any other ways than (1) tying it up into a ponytail and (2) just leaving it messy and uncombed. Imagine my delight when I stumbled upon this Hair Sponge a.k.a. Easy Hair Bun from My Pandora Box! I knew I had to get it - for the sake of the bored people who have to stand behind me in the nasi lemak queue in the campus cafeteria, and for the sake of every reader reading this who is stuck in the same hair rut as me :D

RM15 (plus RM3 Pos Ekspres) later, the black hair sponge arrived in my postbox :D It's also available in dark brown for those of you who have dyed your hair brown :) Best to get the colour that matches your hair colour the most - this is meant to be invisible!

It has a very bendable wire inside, so it's extremely easy to use! :) It also doesn't lose its shape. This is what your hair bun will ultimately look like:

Follow These Easy Instructions
  1. Tie your hair into a ponytail. High ponytail recommended! I did a low ponytail anyway, so you can see what it looks like below :P
  2. Place ponytail into hair sponge.
  3. Tighten hair sponge and pull down to perhaps the last quarter of your ponytail.
  4. Start rolling the hair sponge up towards the top of your head.
  5. Bend the ends of the hair sponge down to secure bun.
  6. Move your hair so it covers the sponge.
  7. Bobby pin the loose strands in, give it a puff of hairspray (optional) and you're all set! Decorate with hair accessories (such as flowers or hairbands) if you like :)

Is it really that easy?
  • At first, I was skeptical - but then I followed the instructions, and it really IS that easy! :D
  • If you want it to look neater and sleeker, you'll have to use bobby pins to secure the wild bits - and to use hair moisturizer. Hairspray helps to keep the bun in place if you're going out for a special occasion ;)
  • If you want the bun higher on your head, just tie your ponytail higher. As you can see in the video (below), you can even tie your ponytail on the side of your head - anywhere you want, your hair bun can be! :D As you can see, I've tied my ponytail low, so the resulting bun is low :)
  • It takes, like, 10 seconds for the basic bun. Totally worth the RM15!
Photos as proof - pardon my jammies :P

Videos *Must Watch!*
  • This first video is recommended by My Pandora Box, which shows very clearly how to use the hair sponge. However, I personally couldn't use it this way because my hair is too thick and layered (so I used the method of the second video below). If you have thin hair that is not layered, you can even use the hair sponge without needing to tie a ponytail! :)
  • Watch this video (by a famous Hong Kong vlogger) on how to use this hair bun sponge :D It's in spoken Cantonese but there are English subtitles for instructions - and you can still see how she is using the hair sponge, no worries! :) You only need to watch the first 3 minutes to get all the info you need :D You'll be very impressed with the results, trust me! ;)
